Privacy Policy
How Fennby collects, uses and protects your information.
Last updated: October 2026. This policy covers the Fennby mobile app and the fennby.com website (together, "Fennby"), which are provided by Omnivion Technologies Private Limited ("Omnivion," "we," "us" and "our"). Omnivion is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Summary
- We collect what you put into Fennby (lists, pantry, household, preferences, meal plans), plus the account and device details needed to run the app.
- We use it to run Fennby for you and your household. We don't sell your personal information, and Fennby doesn't show ads.
- Members of your household can see shared household content, including the allergies you save. Dietary, cuisine and budget preferences are shared by default, and you can make them private.
- When you use AI features, the relevant part of your household's data is sent to an AI provider to produce the answer.
- You can export your data or delete your account from Settings at any time.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account: your name or display name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the account identifier and the email address that provider shares with us.
- Profile and household: an optional profile photo or avatar, household name and optional household photo, the members of your household, their roles, and invitations you send or receive (including invite codes and links).
- Preferences: allergies, dietary preferences and an optional grocery budget target.
- Shopping and pantry: shopping lists and items, quantities, prices you enter, items you mark as bought, shopping trips and receipt totals, pantry items with quantities, storage locations and expiration dates.
- Recipes and meal plans: recipes you save, filters you save, and meal plans you create.
- AI and support conversations: messages you send to Fennby AI or the in-app support assistant, AI drafts you review, apply or dismiss, and any thumbs-up/down feedback you give.
- Reports and support requests: issues you report about products or recipes (for example, wrong product information or a missing photo) and messages you send to our support team.
Information collected when you use Fennby
- Barcode scans: the barcodes you scan and the products they match. The camera image is processed on your device to read the barcode. We don't upload the camera feed.
- Voice input: if you use voice entry, your speech is converted to text by your device's speech recognition service (provided by Apple or Google). Fennby receives the resulting text.
- Device and app information: device type, operating system, app version, language and region settings, network status, and a push notification token if you allow notifications.
- Service logs: technical records our infrastructure keeps when the app talks to our servers, such as request times and errors, used to run, secure and troubleshoot Fennby. The app doesn't currently use third-party product analytics. If we add analytics, we'll update this policy before it's switched on.
- Subscription status: which plan you have, trial and renewal dates, and purchase status, received from the App Store or Google Play through our subscription provider. We never receive your full card or payment details.
On this website
The website doesn't require an account. It stores your cookie-banner choice in your browser. See the Cookie Policy.
2. How we use information
- To provide Fennby's features: syncing lists, pantry and meal plans across your devices and your household; matching recipes to what you have; showing product, ingredient and allergen information; and tracking spending against your budget.
- To flag ingredients that match an allergy someone in your household has saved. Fennby highlights only real text matches from the product's ingredient information and never infers or guesses.
- To send the notifications you've turned on, such as expiring pantry items, shopping-trip reminders, budget alerts, household updates, and account or subscription notices.
- To run Fennby AI and the support assistant when you use them (see section 4).
- To process subscriptions and confirm your Premium access.
- To keep Fennby secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
- To improve Fennby, based on the reports, feedback and support requests you send us and on service logs.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We don't sell your personal information. We don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and Fennby doesn't show ads on any plan.
3. What your household can see
Fennby is built for sharing, so a lot of what you add is visible to the other members of your household:
- Shared content: shopping lists, pantry items, meal plans and household details are visible to all members.
- Allergies: always visible to members of your household, so Fennby can flag products and recipes that affect someone at home. This can't be turned off, so please don't save an allergy you don't want your household to see.
- Dietary, cuisine and budget preferences: visible to your household by default. To hide them from other members, turn on "Make my preferences private" in Settings → Data Controls → Sharing. The change applies to preferences you've already saved as well as new ones.
- Activity: by default, members can see what you added or bought. You can turn this off with "Share my activity with the household" in Settings → Data Controls.
- Prices: you can hide the prices you enter from other members with "Hide my prices from members."
- Your name and photo are shown to members of your households.
If you leave a household or are removed from one, you lose access to its shared content. Household owners and admins can invite and remove members according to the roles shown in the app.
4. AI features
- Fennby AI (Premium): when you ask Fennby AI a question, we send your message, together with the household information needed to answer it, to Google's Gemini API. That information can include pantry items, open shopping-list items, meal plans, spending and budget, preferences, and members' display names (when "learn across household" is on). Fennby AI suggests shopping-list and meal-plan drafts. Nothing changes until you review and apply a draft. You can turn AI features off and clear AI history in Settings.
- Support assistant: messages you send to the in-app support assistant are processed by Google's Gemini API. The support assistant doesn't read your lists, pantry or household data. Conversations may be kept with your support request so a person can follow up.
- Generated avatars: if you choose to generate an illustrated avatar, the photo you select is sent to Google's Gemini API to create it. We keep the generated avatar, not the original photo.
- Item images: to show a generic picture for list and pantry items, we send the item's name (for example, "oat milk") to OpenAI to standardize the name and generate a generic, unbranded product image. No account details are sent.
AI output can be wrong. Check it before relying on it, especially anything about allergens or ingredients.
5. Service providers
We use these providers to run Fennby. They process information on our behalf to perform their function:
- Supabase: account authentication, database, file storage and server functions. Data is stored in the United States.
- RevenueCat: subscription management and purchase verification.
- Apple and Google: Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In, in-app purchases and subscriptions, push notification delivery, and on-device speech recognition services.
- Expo: push notification delivery.
- Google (Gemini API): Fennby AI, the support assistant and avatar generation.
- OpenAI: item-name standardization and generic item images.
- Open Food Facts: when you scan a product that isn't already in our catalog, we send its barcode to the Open Food Facts database to look up product information. Only the barcode is sent.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. In a sale, this policy will continue to apply to your information.
6. Legal bases
Where the law requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (to provide the app and features you use); consent (for example, notifications, camera and microphone access, and photos you choose to upload, which you can withdraw in the app or your device settings); legitimate interests (keeping Fennby secure, preventing abuse, and improving the app in ways that don't override your rights); and legal obligations.
7. How long we keep information
- We keep your account information while your account exists.
- Lists, pantry, meal plans and other household content are kept while the household exists.
- Shopping history, receipts, AI conversations and support conversations are currently kept until you delete them or your account. We don't yet delete them automatically on a schedule. If we introduce automatic retention periods, we'll update this policy.
- You can clear search history and AI history at any time in Settings → Data Controls.
- Data export files are available through a private link that expires after one hour.
- Backups: we don't currently guarantee a specific backup retention period. As an early-stage service, we don't maintain long-term backups or point-in-time recovery of your data. In the rare event of data loss affecting the service, recent changes could be unrecoverable. We plan to introduce a formal backup policy with a defined retention window as Fennby grows, and we'll update this policy when we do. You can keep your own copy at any time with the data export in Settings.
- When you delete your account, it is scheduled for deletion 30 days later (see section 8). After that, your personal data is permanently removed from our active systems. We may keep a limited record where the law requires it, for example of purchase transactions.
8. Your choices and rights
- Access and export: download a copy of your data from Settings → Data Management. The export covers your lists, pantry, purchases and other account data in a machine-readable (JSON) file.
- Correction: edit your profile, preferences, allergies, budget and household details in the app at any time.
- Household visibility: make your dietary, cuisine and budget preferences private in Settings → Data Controls → Sharing. You can also stop sharing your activity and hide your prices from other members there.
- Deletion: delete your account from Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is scheduled for 30 days after you confirm, and you can cancel during that time. If other people are in a household you own, you'll be asked to transfer ownership first. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Cancel that in your store account settings.
- Notifications and permissions: turn notifications, camera, microphone and photo access on or off in the app or your device settings.
- AI controls: turn AI features off, change what they can learn from, and clear AI history in Settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, such as the right to know what personal information we hold, to request correction or deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity, and we'll respond within the time the law requires.
9. Children
You must be at least 13 years old to use Fennby. Fennby isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
10. Where information is processed
Fennby is currently offered in the United States. Our main database is hosted in the United States. Some service providers may process information in other countries. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards they provide for international transfers.
11. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, encrypted storage at our database provider, and database access rules that limit data to you and the households you belong to. Sign-in tokens are kept in your device's secure storage. You can also add an optional app lock that uses your device's Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint unlock. Biometric checks happen on your device, and Fennby never receives biometric data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep your device protected.
12. Security incidents
If a security incident affects your personal information, we'll investigate it, take steps to contain it, and notify you and any relevant authorities as the law requires, without undue delay.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Fennby changes. We'll post the new "Last updated" date on this page. For material changes, we'll also notify you in the app before they take effect.
14. Contact
Questions or requests about your privacy can be sent to [email protected].
